Direct flights are being started between Bangkok and Amritsar from Sri Guru Ramdas International Airport in Amritsar from October 28. This flight is being started by Thailand’s Thai Lion Air. This flight will be operated four days a week.

.

The flight will depart from Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport (DMK) at 8:10 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and will reach Amritsar at 11:25 pm local time, just 4 hours and 45 minutes later. The return flight from Amritsar will depart after midnight at 12:25 am on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday and will reach Bangkok at 6:15 am.

Expressing his excitement, Sameep Singh Gumtala, Convener of Fly Initiative said, “The launch of the flight between Bangkok and Amritsar is another major milestone in our ongoing efforts to enhance international air connectivity in the region. The launch of these flights will not only boost tourism and trade in Punjab and North India but also bring people from other religions to Punjab to visit Harmandir Sahib and other historical places.”

Flights already available for Malaysia and Singapore

“Amritsar is already connected to several South East Asian countries with direct flights from Kuala Lumpur by Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia X, Batik Air and Singapore by Scoot. Connectivity to Bangkok is also available through these two airports. But now with this direct flight the travel time will be reduced to 8 to 10 hours.

The launch of this direct flight will also benefit the residents of neighbouring states Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh, who frequently travel to Thailand. Now they will be able to travel directly to Thailand’s popular beach destinations like Phuket, Krabi, Koh Samui and Hua Hin as well as Thailand’s famous cities Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Surat Thani and Ayutthaya.

According to the Fly Amritsar Initiative, they appeal to the Punjabi community to take advantage of this new flight and make this route a success. They hope that after the success of this route, other Thai airlines will also consider starting flights to Amritsar. Passengers can book their flights through the official website of Thai Lion Air, mobile app or authorized travel agents.
