Kyiv. Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to visit India and the Ukrainian leader said he would be happy to visit this great country. PM Modi invited Zelensky to visit India during his long conversation with the Ukrainian President. Prime Minister Modi made a nearly nine-hour visit to Kiev. Which was the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister since Ukraine’s independence three decades ago. In a media briefing after the talks between the two leaders, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar confirmed that Modi invited Zelensky to visit India.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said, “It is a big thing that our Prime Minister has come to Ukraine for the first time since 1992. It is natural to invite him on such an occasion, as he did in this case.” Jaishankar said, “So we hope that at some point, President Zelensky will come to India as per his convenience.” When asked in a media briefing about PM Modi’s invitation, Zelensky said that he would be happy to come to India.

No need to waste time
Jaishankar further said that ‘When you start a strategic partnership, and you start some conversation, I think you don’t need to waste time and take a big pause. So I think it would be good for the two leaders to meet again.’ At the same time, Ukrainian President Zelensky also said that he wants India to take the side of his country. Zelensky said that ‘I have read a lot about your big and great country. It is very interesting.’ He said that ‘I need your country very much. As soon as your government and Prime Minister are ready to meet me, I will be happy to come to India.’

There is also discussion on buying oil from Russia
Along with this, Zelensky also said that his visit to India will also depend on the situation in Ukraine. Meanwhile, Jaishankar, in response to a question, said that India’s energy trade with Russia was also discussed in the talks between the two leaders. He said, ‘We explained to the Ukrainian side what is the current state of the energy market? The fact that sanctions have been imposed on many energy producers today has made the market potentially very tight. It is in the interest of the international economy as a whole that oil prices remain reasonable and stable.’
