New Delhi. Parth Jindal, co-owner of IPL franchise Delhi Capitals, says that Prithvi Shaw was misunderstood in many ways. But Jindal is also saying that the Earth needed a ‘shock’. Right-handed batsman Prithvi Shaw was not bought by any team in the IPL 2025 mega auction. He remained unsold. Last season, Prithvi was a part of the Delhi Capitals team but in recent times his performance has declined significantly. These days he remains in the news for reasons other than sports. Prithvi’s fitness is getting worse day by day. The young talent who was initially being touted as the next Brian Lara and Sachin Tendulkar is now shooting himself in the foot. Prithvi was also dropped by the home team Mumbai due to obesity.
Speaking to India Today, Parth Jindal said, ‘He is a wonderful child. However, he was misunderstood in many ways. When you grow up hearing all your life that you are very special, the most talented. When you are compared with Brian Lara or the great Sachin Tendulkar, it creates pressure. This is the shock he probably needed. Shaw was a part of the Delhi Capitals team after making the Under-19 team the world champion under his captaincy in 2018. Delhi had then signed him for Rs 1.2 crore. Before the 2022 auction, this Mumbai batsman was retained by Delhi for Rs 7.5 crore. But in the last few seasons, there has been a big decline in the form of this 25 year old batsman. He is not able to do great things with the bat.

‘Prithvi will have to work hard to get back in the game’
Parth Jindal said that Prithvi Shaw will have to work on his fitness. For this they will also have to maintain discipline. According to Jindal, ‘He will have to work hard to get back in the game. He was on a big contract in IPL. He was the player who opened the innings for Delhi. In domestic cricket, he played for Mumbai in all formats. I hope he is successful in his comeback and we will be able to see the same Prithvi Shaw we know again. Earth can take this as a wakeup call for itself. Which can prove important in getting his cricket career on track.
Prithvi Shaw scored 198 runs in 8 matches in the last IPL
Prithvi Shaw had scored 198 runs in 8 matches in the last season of IPL 2024. After this, Delhi Capitals released him before the 2025 auction. No franchise showed interest in buying him in the two-day IPL mega auction held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. They were not even brought into the accelerated auction process. Prithvi is out of the IPL season for the first time. He has been playing continuously since his debut in IPL in 2018.
