However, Root is at third place in the list of fastest batsmen to reach this figure. Virat Kohli has the record of scoring the fastest 20 thousand international runs. In this list, legends Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara are jointly at second place.

Right-handed batsman Joe Root touched the 20,000-run mark in 458 innings, while Sachin and Brian Lara had to take the same 453 innings. Former Team India captain Virat Kohli has achieved this milestone in 417 innings. Root has left AB de Villiers behind in the list of batsmen who have scored the most runs in international cricket.
