World Food Safety Day is celebrated every year on the 7th of June. This day is dedicated to ensuring that the food we eat is safe and won’t make us sick.It’s a collective effort where everyone has a part to play. This includes the people who grow our food, those who sell it, and us, the consumers. Each year, there’s a special theme.

For 2024, the theme is “Food Safety: Prepare for the Unexpected”. This means we need to be ready for any situations that could risk our food being unsafe, such as natural events.

7 Methods to Avoid unhealthy Food in 2024

1- Avoid Processed Foods: Limit the number of processed foods that you eat. Processed meats like bacon, sausage, ham, hot dogs, salami, and deli meat are among the least healthy foods you can eat.

2- Check Sodium Levels: Avoid or limit sodium from common foods such as sandwiches, burgers, tacos, rice, pasta and grain dishes, pizza, meat, poultry and seafood dishes, and soups.

3- Read Food Labels: Always read food labels and avoid items that are high in saturated fats, sodium, and added sugars.Avoid Unhealthy Fats: Stay away from foods that contain high amounts of unhealthy saturated fat.

4- Beware of Additives: Be cautious of foods that contain nitrates, nitrites, and other chemical additives like coloring, flavoring, and preservatives.

5- Use a Food Thermometer: Color and texture are unreliable indicators of safety. Using a food thermometer is the only way to ensure the safety of meat, poultry, seafood, and egg products for all cooking methods.

6- Stay Informed About Recalls: Keep yourself updated about recent food recalls and outbreaks.Prevent Food Poisoning: Get information on preventing food poisoning and foodborne disease outbreaks.

7- Ensure Food is Safe and Nutritious: Access to sufficient amounts of safe and nutritious food is key to sustaining life and promoting good health.Avoid Harmful Substances: Unsafe food containing harmful bacteria, viruses, parasites or chemical substances can cause more than 200 diseases.
